chiliasm (KIL-ee-az-m) - n., a belief in the Christ's thousand-year reign of peace on Earth.

Sometimes called millenarianism, which can be either premillenarianism (which has the tribulations and second coming at the start of the thousand years, which are then ruled by the Christ is person) or postmillenarianism (in which they come at the end of the thousand years, without rule by Christ), but chiliasm is usually specifically premillenarianism. First used in English around 1610, borrowed from Greek chīliasmós, from chī́li(oi), 1000 + -asmos, the root of -ism when used on a stem ending with -i.
