baccivorous

baccivorous (bak-SIV-er-uhs) - adj,. eating or subsisting on berries.

As in certain birds.

Yeah, I know. Mark this as "we have a word for that?" -- and have since around 1660. Coined from Latin roots bacca (or bāca), berry + -vorus, devouring, from vorāre, to swallow.

Ooh, I'd like to be baccivorous. Too bad that would result in severe malnutrition.

Words like this are to help people sound impossibly erudite as they make commonplace observations.

"The catbird is not exclusively baccivorous, but its diet is extensively so."

Bears seem to be the first thing people think of here.

Actually, my friend was the first thing I thought of. Nom nom nom nom.

You are friends with berries? And you eat them?
