Theme week: 5x5, or five days of five-letter words. Because I had a couple in a row on my list, basically.
emmet (EM-it) - n., an ant.
Specifically, it's an archiac dialect form of the same word, both being from the Old English form ǣmette, from West Germanic roots meaning "a biter-off". Emmet is still used in some places as a poeticism, and in Cornwall to refer to tourists.
