More frequently in modern times called a lindworm, but I'm sure you all agree that lindorm is a MUCH better sounding word. The term comes from Scandinavia, and the wingless beast from Norse lore -- and frequently appear in art and on runestones. Canonically, the bipedal part is just front claws, to distinguish it from the wyvern, which has hind legs only (not to mention wings). From one of the Norse languages, uncertain which, and of uncertain etymology there, though the orm part is clearly worm.
