furze - n., a spiny yellow-flowered European shrub of the legume family, also called gorse.

In Old English, it was spelled fyrs, or some orthographic approximation. Didn't Pooh have a twiddle about whether something was gorse or furze?

And that ends a week of Nifty Effs. Back to the rest of the alphabet!
