strontia (STRON-shee-uh) - n., strontium oxide (SrO), a white powder used in pigments, pyrotechnics, and soaps.
Formerly part of strontian yellow, but the modern paint is generally another composition now. Strontium itself, the element, is named after the Scottish village Strontian (in Gaelic, Sròn an t-Sìthein, "nose/point of the fairy hill"), Argyllshire where the mineral from which it was isolated was found.
