rusticate (RUHS-ti-kait) - v., to go live in or send into the countryside; to make rustic; to build as to produce jagged or heavily textured surfaces; (Brit.) to suspend or expel (a student) from a university (esp. Oxbridge).

To become or make rustic, in many senses of that adjective, plus some academic slang. For that last, London counted as country -- anyplace away from the university being less refined, or at least less academic. From Latin rūsticātus, past participle of rūsticārī to live in the country.

Oh, just the main one, to live in the countryside, with a connotation of being backward.
