jargoon (djar-GOON) - n., a colorless (or sometimes pale yellow or smoky) variety of zircon.

Sometimes also spelled jargon, which is confusing as jargon itself is a completely different word. On the other hand, this almost the same word as zircon: both come from Persian zar gun, gold-colored, but while zircon went through Arabic (as zarqūn) then French (as zircon) then German to get to English, jargoon went through Italian (as giargone) then French (as jargon) to English.

Huh. Is that behind Norton's title as well? (The Jargoon Pard.)

I've no idea -- never read any Witch World. Is it a golden cat?

Yes, more or less--memory is hazy. I think there's a stone, a focus object.

Certainly sounds possible, then.
