debitage (DEB-i-tij) - n., the waste flakes and other debris from making stone tools.

Sharp-edged flakes and other bit chipped or worked off. Debitage analysis by archaeologists tell us a lot about the stoneworking technologies of those who left debitage behind. Wikipedia has more. Adopted in the 1940s from French débitage, where it means the act of chopping/cutting (something) up.
