stromboli (stram-BOH-lee) - n., a baked turnover of pizza dough rolled around a filling of cheese, meat, and often vegetables.

Similar to a clazone, except that a) it was invented just outside Philadelphia around 1950, instead of 18th century Naples, and b) is typically rolled (or folded over) into an cylinder instead of pinched into a closed, half-circle-shaped pocket. The name was after the 1950 movie Stromboli, set on the island of that name, which was notorious at the time for the on-set romance between star Ingrid Bergman and director Roberto Rossellini.
