oppugnant (uh-PUHG-nuhnt) - adj., antagonistic, contrary, confrontational.

Also, as an obsolete noun, someone who is antagonistic, contrary, confrontational, hostile, et cet., and the verb of action is oppugn (uh-PYOON). This is a lesser known cousin of repugnant, with the suffix ob-, against (instead of re-, back) on the Latin stem pugnāre, to fight (from PIE root *peuk-/*pouk-, root sense of prick). Adopted from the Latin around 1510, and never popular. Possibly because it's too oppositious for comfort.
