echinops (EK-uh-naps, uh-KEE-naps) - n., any of several globe thistles (genus Echinops) with spherical flower heads native to Europe, western Asia, and northern Africa.

Quite pretty, though not extensively cultivated as an ornamental:

Echinops
Thanks, WikiMedia!

The name was coined from Ancient Greek roots ekhînos, hedgehog + óps, face, which has to be the most adorable botanical coinage ever.
