gorgonize (GAWR-guh-naiz) - v., to stupefy, paralyze or petrify.

To affect in the same way as or like the way of a Gorgon -- being one of three snake-haired sisters of Greek mythology, the most famous of whom was Medusa, all of them so frightful just looking at one turned you to stone. Their name comes from Ancient Greek gorgós, dreadful.

I'm off the rest of the week for the Stateside holiday -- back with more words Monday.
