Created in the late 1960s by crossbreeding Siamese and Abyssinian cats, with some American shorthair by mistake but accepted because it made the breed stronger and healthier. They come in a few color morphs. The name was coined as a blend of ocelot and cat, because the tawny and chocolate morph do somewhat resemble an ocelot in coloration, if not in body shape.
