phthor or phthore (THOR) - n., (obs.) fluorine.


Okay, in using obsolete chemistry jargon, I may be reaching just a little bit for this theme. But I love the word anyway. Interestingly, it's in Urban Dictionary, thanks to a Piers Anthony novel. From Ancient Greek phthorá, destruction, referring to the highly caustic properties in its elemental state.
