bissextile (bai-SEKS-til, bai-SEKS-tail) - adj., of relating to a leap day or a leap year.

From Latin bisextilis annus, bissextile year, in which the bisextus is from bis-, two/twice/doubled + sextus, sixth + dies, day, from the Julian calendar's original reckoning of its quadrennial intercalary day as a 48-hour February 24, subsequently distinguished as the two separate days of the sixth day before the March calends. Yes, we count February 24 as five days before March 1, but the Romans used inclusive counting.
