leatherhead (LE-ther-hed) - n., any of several honeyeaters (genus Philemon) of Australasia with dark heads bare of feathers.

Noisy friarbird, Philemon corniculatus
Thanks, WikiMedia!

Also more frequently called friarbirds, though not all friarbirds have the leathery head -- they're named for their circular pattern at the crown of their heads and their neutral coloring (shared by the leatherheads), which makes them resemble friars. As a type of honeyeater, they are closely related to fairywrens. Name is from, well, the leathery appearance of their heads.
