spoonerism

spoonerism - n., the transposition of the initial sounds of two words.

Especially when done accidentally. After the Rev. William Archibald Spooner (1844-1930), Warden of New College, Oxford, who was notoriously prone to spoonerisms. Wikipedia has discussion and examples, including my favorite, "The Lord is a shoving leopard."

my favourite spoonerism has long been:

"you have tasted two whole worms, hissed all my mystery lectures and been caught fighting liars in the quadrangle ... "

:-)

That's a good one, too.

This is one of those cases of where it's hard to decide whether the word itself or its meaning (or at least examples) are funnier.
