linguine (ling-GWEE-nee) - n., pasta in long, flattened strands, with an elliptical cross-section.

slightly flattened spaghetti is linguine
Thanks, WikiMedia!

As opposed to fettuccini, which is flat (and generally wider), and spaghetti, which is round. Often used with pesto sauces. The name is, of course, from Italian, plural of linguina, diminutive of lingua, tongue -- referring to the cross-section shape.

And that's a week of pastas, specifically looking at what the names mean. Needless to say, there's a lot more, but there's only so many days in a week. Back next week with the usual mix, in no small part to keep me from getting too hungry in the morning.
