cambist (KAM-bist) - n., a money changer; one who deals in bills of exchange, or who is skilled in foreign exchange; a table or manual giving the exchange values of moneys, weights, and measures of various countries.
A somewhat old-fashioned word -- though there have been some moden uses -- especially the table of exchange rates. Adopted around 1800 from French cambiste, from Italian cambista, foreign exchange dealer, from cambiare, to exchange/change, from Vulgar Latin cambiāre, from either Late Latin cambiō or Latin cambium, change, from Gaulish cambion/*kambyom, change, ultimately from PIE root *kh₂em-, to bend/curve. Which is a bit of a twisty route.
