balaustine
Oct. 4th, 2024 07:18 ambalaustine (buh-LAWS-tin) - adj., of, pertaining to, or resembling a pomegranate. n., the dried flowers of the pomegranate used in medicines.
From Latin balaustium, pomegranate flower, from Ancient Greek balaústion, from a Semitic source -- which makes sense as it is native to the region ranging from Iran to northern India. Pomegranate itself ultimately comes (either directly or via Old French) from Latin pōmum grānātum, many-seeded fruit/apple.
