Theme week! One that got put off for a couple months by frequentives (which I still miss) -- -phagous, or words for having a specialized diet. All of these, the suffix is from the Ancient Greek suffix -phágos, -eating, from phageîn, to eat.


artophagous - (rare) v., bread-eating.


Used humorously, sometimes, to describe the French, but also of cultures and subcultures where bread is indeed the staple starch. The coined from Ancient Greek ártos, bread.

My initial thought was to link Parry Gripp’s “nom nom nom” video, but none of the animals portrayed are unequivocally eating bread (and, indeed, most are tucking into species-appropriate vegetables.)
