georgette or Georgette (jawr-JET) - n., a sheer silk or rayon fabric with a dull, crinkled finish.


Originally capitalized because it was named and trademarked by late 19th century French fashion designer Georgette de la Plante. The fabric was popular in the 1910s and 20s, especially used in hat designs, but also for loosely flowing dresses. First recorded as an English word in 1915, according to a couple dictionaries.
