quelle surprise (KEL suh-PRAIZ) - (sarcastic) n., what a surprise.

See also surprise, surprise, only that's native to English instead of taken from French. I'm amused that the quelle is more or less French pronunciation while surprise is English, even though it's the French word (same spelling). Inconsistency? Quelle surprise.

…I’ve been pronouncing it (KEL suh-PREEZ) all this time; quelle surprise!

(One American English variant is the triple surprise, surprise, surprise—uttered with the English pronunciation and specifically in a stereotypical Southern U.S. drawl. It’s a generational marker, deriving from the 60’s TV show Gomer Pyle.)

The same spelling may make it automatically pronounce it as English word ☝️
