geyser - n., a hot spring that intermittently sends up fountainlike jets of water and steam into the air.
Also, British usage, a hot-water heater, and as a verb, to spew forth as a geyser. From the Icelandic name for a particular geyser, Geysir, meaning gusher, from geysa, to gush, from Old Norse. Geyser itself no longer geysers regularly, but a nearby one, Strokkor ("churn"), does every 5-10 minutes.
