ramify - v., to divide or extend in branches or subordinate branchlike parts; to have complicating consequences.


Can be transitive or in-. I actually prefer the literal sense here, though the metaphoric is a good extension. Since Middle English, from Middle French ramifier, from Latin ramificare, from ramus, branch -- not to be confused with radix, root.
