ObCliche here is a "sweet surcease from sorrow." From Middle English sursesen, from Anglo-French, from Old French sursis, past participle of surseoir, to refrain, from Latin supersedere, to sit above, to sit out. Which is a lovely visual image, that -- something stopping because it'll sit this one out.
