obnubilate - v., to obscure, cloud over.


That last being the literal root meaning -- from Latin obnubilatus, past participle of obnubilare, from ob-, in the way + nubilare, to be cloudy, from nubilus, cloudy, from nubes, cloud. But metaphoric extensions are obvious and possibly fruitful.
