This holiday, my True Love gave me words -- a small red bag of cards, each with a word she'd dug up playing Scrabble. I think this calls for a semiregular theme week, starting with this one. And pulling randomly from the bag I get:


maun - aux. v. (Scot.) must.


From an Old English form man or mun, meaning shall/will.

Ken's good solid English, though. It's survived slightly better in the North, but was never just a Scotsman's word.
