gox - n., gaseous oxygen.
wox - n., (obs.) imperative form of wax.
That is, wax as in the waxing moon. "Wox, thou peevish moon!" Or something like that. For gox, compare with lox. I gotta say, if my mother allows gox during Scrabble while grumping about fax (she still insists it's an abbreviation), I'm gonna be annoyed.
