vespertine - adj., of, pertaining to, occurring in, active in, or flourishing during the evening.


When used zoologically, more or less synonymous with crepuscular. Breaking the string, it's not from the 17th century, but the 16th -- used since 1502. From Latin vespertīnus, from vesper, evening.
