theriac - n., (Med. Obs.) a universal panacea for poison compounded of 64 drugs and honey; treacle, molasses.

The former was also known as Venice treacle, because it was for a while a monopoly of Venetian doctors, at least in Europe. First compounded by Greek physicians (Galen wrote a book on it) based on supposed recipes by Mithridates VI of Pontus, and spread throughout the Silk Road countries. Wikipedia has more. The name comes from Latin thériaca, from Greek thériaké, from thériakós, concerning wild beasts.

(New enough for ya?)
