withe - n., a tough supple twig or stem, especially of willow, suitable for binding things together.


Also called a withy. Pronounced, in case like me you were uncertain, with a single syllable with either a short or long i -- so rhyme with with or blythe. From Old English wiþþe (yes, a double thorn), related by deep PEI roots to wire, so the binding sense was predominant there.
