Or so says the OED, which is about the only place (outside of lists of unusual words from the OED) you'll find this. Though oddly enough, I did find a column in a racing magazine that used it (after defining it) -- possibly the writer met it through Ammon Shea's book. More's the pity, because, dude, that's a wonderful word.
