weft - n., horizontal threads woven between the warp.

The yarn carried by the shuttle, in other words. Warp is stationary, the weft is woven through it. From Old English, from from wefan, to weave. An alternate form is woof.

Warp and weft/woof shows up all too often as an image in my poetry.
