crepitate - v., to make a crackling or popping sound.

I'll go crepitate down the hall to my comfy chair now. From Latin crepitātus, past participle of crepitāre to crackle, frequentative of crepāre to rattle, crack. And I suppose a crackle is a frequent crack.
