crepitate - v., to make a crackling or popping sound.

I'll go crepitate down the hall to my comfy chair now. From Latin crepitātus, past participle of crepitāre to crackle, frequentative of crepāre to rattle, crack. And I suppose a crackle is a frequent crack.

Don't crepitate!

As you know Bob, the major use of the word is for nasty nasty sounds coming from the lungs meaning that air is in places it definitely should not be.

(I have knees that crepitate, which isn't as big a deal.)

Knees, and just about every other joint. I pop a lot that way.

Would a wood fire crepitate?

I'm thinking yes. Especially if it's locust wood.
