Forgotten-English Friday comes again yay:
flay-craw - "A scarecrow. —F.T. Dinsdale's Glossary of Provincial Words Used in Teesdale in the County of Durham, 1849"
Not the only North-Country glossary it appears in, but it seems to be most common in Durham. I first met the word in the works of Greer Gilman. From flay, to frighten + craw, crow.
