echt (EKT) - adj., real, genuine, authentic.
Yes, that's an echt word. It's a little on the snooty side, and in the negative can contain a touch of being derogatory ("that restaurant serves little that it echt Japanese"). Borrowed from German, but none of the dictionaries at hand seem to know when, from Middle Low German echte, lawful, akin to Old High German eohaft, customary. Note that the -ch- has been Anglicized to a -k- sound.
