gerenuk (GER-uh-nook, guh-REN-uhk) - n., a reddish-brown antelope (Litocranius walleri) of eastern Africa having a long, slender neck.

Sometimes called a giraffe-necked antelope or a Waller's gazelle. They also have startling ears. They are also able to graze on their hind legs, letting them reach higher into acacias than other antelope. The name was adopted from Somali gáránúug, which means giraffe-necked.
