A medical condition, or rather a symptom of same. Can be general over the whole body or localized. "Abnormal" in this case meaning more than needed to regulate temperature. Coined around 1855 from Greek roots hyper-, excess + hidrōsis, sweating, from hidroûn, to sweat, from hidrōs, sweat.
