spondulicks
Feb. 10th, 2014 07:24 amTheme week: dough. That is, slang words (mostly American) for money.
spondulicks or spondulix (spon-DOO-liks) - n., (slang) money.
This started as a 19th century Americanism of uncertain origin, but there's evidence to suggest it started as college slang some time around 1850. This one spread to the UK and Australia, and is used more there (though not very much any more) than in the States. Certainly it strikes me as something that went out with the jazz age, and welcome to it. For more speculations for its origin, this is pretty interesting. ETA: See also Wiki.
