In theology, the "[m]ajor subdivisions of the study are the nature of evil, the origin of evil, and evil in relation to the Divine Government" (per Wikipedia). In social sciences, the term was adopted by Polish psychiatrist Andrzej Łobaczewski to "use of data from psychology, sociology, philosophy, and history to account for such phenomena as aggressive war, ethnic cleansing, genocide, and despotism" (per Wikipedia). Coined in Latin from Greek poneros, evil.
