In social sciences, the term was adopted by Polish psychiatrist Andrzej Ćobaczewski to "use of data from psychology, sociology, philosophy, and history to account for such phenomena as aggressive war, ethnic cleansing, genocide, and despotism" (per Wikipedia). Coined in Latin from Greek poneros, evil.
