ambsace - n., the lowest throw at dice; the smallest possible amount of something; something worthless or unlucky.

Stress the first syllable, b is silent, and the second a is long -- AM-zays. In use since the 13th century, from Anglo-French, from Old French, from Latin ambās, both + as, unit -- that is, ace.

I had an ambsace last night playing Dungeons & Dragons -- three 1s on 3 six-sided dice. Fortunately, I had a magic item that let me reroll three damage dice once; I gracefully recovered with a 17. I'll have to remember "ambsace!" next time; it sounds good when shouted in disbelief.
