motty - adj., full of or consisting of motes.


A Scots word that gives one pause until one realizes that mote (small particle or speck) was originally spelled mot in Old English, and its cognates in Dutch and Norwegian are mot and mutt. (Mote as in "so mote it be" always was a long O.) It was still mot as of "Middle English," but I'm not finding when it became a mote.
