amoret - n. (obs.), an amorous girl or woman; a love token or love song; a petty love affair.


Obsolete, but potentially useful in that last meaning for a summer beach relationship. Hardly any dictionaries since Webster's 1913 unabridged have entries for it. From French, diminutive of amour, love.

I'm having a little fling with this word this morning, and trying to remember in what piece of fiction I've seen Amoret used as a female character's name. Hmm.
