brochette - n., a small skewer used to broil or roast meat, fish, or vegetables.

So shish kebab, satay, and yakitori are all cooked en brochette. From French, clearly, and still pronounced as such, broh-SHET -- in use since either the 15th or 18th century (dictionaries are disagreeing here), from Old French brochete, diminutive of broche, spit, pointed tool, from Latin Latin brocca, from brocchus, pointed, sharp. So, yes, cognate of broach (a pointy bit of jewelry).
