Pronounced as you think. As Ultimate Ungulate points out, there is extreme sexual dimorphism, with males larger and darker than females. Name is from Venda, a Bantu language of the Transvaal and Zimbabwe. There's an Ethiopian relative, the highland nyala, but it's not clear where that name came from.
