nyctalopia

The medical technical name for it. Pronounced nik-t-LOH-pee-eh, in use from around 1680, taken from Latin, in turn taken from Greek nyktalops, a compound of nykt-, night + alaos, blind + ōps, eye. I'm surprised the -y- survived the transmission through Latin, but apparently it's a sturdy -y-.
